Working with AI Agents
Working with AI Agents
The add-in includes an agent harness: a set of curated tools that a browser AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude can use to work inside your workbook. The assistant can read and edit VBA, create data models and records, set up forms, work with project files, and run tests and validations.
Your first session
- Open a Host Workbook (
.xlsm) with the add-in enabled. - Click Agent Manager on the WHOA ribbon tab.
- On the Prompts tab, click Web Copilot Base Prompt, then Copy Clipboard, and paste it into a new ChatGPT or Claude chat.
- Ask for something small, such as "Summarize the VBA in this workbook." Paste the JSON it replies with into the Agent Json CLI tab, click Run Agent Tool Request, then paste the results back into the chat.
How it works
- You describe what you want in your AI assistant's chat.
- The assistant replies with a tool request: a small block of JSON.
- You paste that block into the Agent Manager in Excel and run it.
- The add-in carries out the request and gives you the result to paste back.
You don't need to read or write the JSON. You just carry it between the chat and Excel.
Why it works this way
In browser chat, you see each request before you run it in Excel. And because the add-in talks to the chat through you, it works with whichever AI assistant your company already allows.
Your data
Whoa Systems never receives your workbook data or code. Anything you share with an AI service goes directly from your computer to that provider, under its terms. For work data, use your company's approved AI service.
What agents can do
- Inspect and edit VBA modules and procedures
- Create typed data models, fields and records
- Configure model-backed forms
- Read, search and edit project text files
- Run unit tests and business validations
- Run Python tooling in a project's own environment
