Whoa Excel Addin Documentation 📚

Install and Setup

Download the add-in, unblock it, run the compatibility test, and install. Also covers antivirus false positives and source code audits for IT departments.

Working with AI Agents

Let a browser AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude work in your workbook through curated tools: editing code, building data models and forms, and running tests.

Add-in Introduction

The add-in operates through a workbook you create, called the Host Workbook, which is where your application lives. This section shows how to set up a new one.

Data Models

A model is a collection of fields representing a real world thing involved in the problems you solve. The add-in offers a graphical interface where you can create models and change fields. Your source code is updated automatically to reflect the fields you specify.

Data Ingestion

Importing data to models is a logical place to start. Imported data hydrates your models, allowing you to interact with it inside of code. Being able to quickly Reset your workbook to zero is indispensable during the process of building an import script, so the topic of Resets is discussed here.

Building Reports

Work backwards from the reports you already deliver: rebuild one next to the original, then let your code produce it.

Testing and Validation

The add-in finds and runs your test and validation procedures automatically. Tests check your code; validations check your business data.

Built-in Tools

Standalone tools built into the add-in, such as a progress bar for long-running macros.

Attributions

The vast majority of the Excel add-in was coded from the ground up. However, a few consequential chunks of capability were derived for free, using open source libraries. This section acknowledges those libraries and their creators.
